If you are
thinking about breeding your pets please read this first. Please
consider what this says before you breed your pets. Breeding
pets is a huge responsibility. So please be sure that you have
the resources that you need before you breed. Remember that
animals can be just as happy even if they are not bred.
Why should you spay & neuter?
Every hour 415 children are born in the U.S.A and every hour
3,500 cats are also born. 10-20 million animals are * euthanized
* every year; this does not include strays or those who die on
the streets.
I'm going to tell you the benefits of spaying and neutering. The
benefits for your pet & the community are: it keeps your
cats & dogs from getting cancer, it relieves your female
dogs & cats of the estrus cycle, it reduces the male dogs
need to roam & to find females in heat, it also reduces the
stray animal population on the street.
1. It eliminates the risk of your female dog or cat from getting
uterine, ovarian, or breast cancer. In males it eliminates the
risk of testicular cancer. In males it reduces the risk of
prostate cancer.
2. It keeps your female cats & dogs from having the estrus
cycle every 6 month or so. It also keeps you from having to use
the excuse : I meant to get Fifi fixed but I forgot. It also
eliminates you from having to put up signs & from having to
go from door to door saying: Do you want a free kitten or a free
puppy?
3. It reduces the male animal's need to roam. So it will keep
animals off the street. Then people won't get attacked by stray
or loose male dogs. Then male animals who are looking for
females in heat won't get hit by cars & won't be shot for
trespassing on people's property.
4. It reduces the stray animal population on the street. With
unfixed animals roaming the streets it cost taxpayers $30-$70 an
animal to have them euthanized. This includes capture, holding,
& feeding.1 cat & her kittens can produce 420,000 cats
in seven years while living unfixed on the streets.
Therefore, spaying and neutering have great benefits for your
pets by reducing the risk of cancer, keeps your females from
having the estrus cycle, keeps your male animal from needing to
roam, & it keeps many animals off the streets.
Only 1 animal out of every 10 born in the U.S.A will receive a
good home. Only 2-3% of shelter cats are ever claimed by their
owners due to lack of ID. Every 1.5 seconds another shelter
animal is killed.
*euthanized*= put to sleep, kill humanely.
